NIHR Clinical Research Network Greater Manchester (CRN GM) held the first meeting for members of the Greater Manchester and East Cheshire Primary Care community on 31 January 2024 at Altrincham Health and Wellbeing Centre.
Over 50 people attended the event which was organised by CRN GM and Naomi Lawson and Dr Lorna McCune, the Research Coordinator and GP Research Lead at St Johns Medical Centre.
It has been a landmark year for Primary Care research recruitment in the region with over 13,900 participants so far, which makes 2023/24 the most successful year CRN GM has ever had in Primary Care. This performance has been thanks to the network of practices being highly engaged in providing opportunities for their patients to be part of research.
Dr Omair Razzaq, Clinical co-lead for Primary Care Research for CRN GM, chaired the meeting and agenda items included an overview of primary care recruitment, the Research Site Initiative (RSI) Funding Scheme, the National Contract Value Review (NCVR) and support for clinicians in primary care.
There were talks from the study teams delivering the TIGER study which is a pilot study evaluating if dietary advice can help children with eczema and Discover-me which is a study analysing genetic information to increase understanding of different diseases.
Liam Taylor, CRN GM Research Delivery Manager for Primary Care, said “Thank you to everyone who came along to our very first CRN and primary care meeting. It was a fantastic event bringing together people working as clinicians in primary care and giving them a chance to network, share successes and learn about future opportunities.”
The next meeting is on Wednesday 24 April 10-12pm (venue tbc). If you would like to attend please email researchsupport.crngm@nihr.ac.uk
