New Director appointments announced for the NIHR East of England Research Delivery Network

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) has appointed to three new Director roles for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) East of England Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN), which is hosted regionally by the Trust.

The NIHR is the nation’s largest funder of clinical, public health, social care and translational research. The NIHR’s Research Delivery Network (RDN) will be its delivery arm, supporting teams in the NHS and social care to carry out high quality research, as well as funding training and facilities.  The new NIHR RDN launches on October 1 2024.  

The appointments are as follows*:

  • Dr Effrossyni Gkrania-Klotsas has been appointed to the role of RRDN Health and Care Director  Medical
  • Dr Catherine Gooday has been appointed to the role of RRDN Health and Care Director Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (NMAHP).
  • Ruth Hudson has been appointed to the role of RRDN Strategic Development Director.

The new appointments will work with Dr Helen Macdonald, East of England RRDN Network Director, in leading an ambitious programme of work in EoE as part of the new NIHR RDN.

All three bring many years of research experience to their new roles, and are currently working in leadership positions for CRN East of England: Effrossyni acted as Infection Specialty Research Lead before taking on the role of Clinical Director in 2022; Catherine has been the NMAHP Research Lead since 2023, and; Ruth has been dedicated to the role of Research Delivery Manager since 2014.

Dr Helen Macdonald said: “We are delighted to be able to announce the appointment of our new RRDN Directors. Their experience of supporting the delivery of research in the region as part of the CRN East of England provides an invaluable foundation on which to build the new RRDN infrastructure.”
