Report shows impact of research delivered in CRN Greater Manchester region in 2022/23

Greater Manchester, East Cheshire and East Lancashire's vital contribution to NIHR research delivery in 2022/23 has been outlined in a new report.

The 2023/23 Strategic Impact Report has been published by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) Greater Manchester.

The brochure demonstrates how the region's research community made it possible for over 51,200 participants to be part of research in 2022/23. This activity took place across more than 1,000 studies covering all health and care specialty areas, with a greater emphasis than ever on delivery in community settings.

Achievements in the report are categorised in chapters with the titles of CRN Greater Manchester's values of Relevant Research, Inclusive Involvement and Exceptional Experience.

There are also chapters summarising how the different departments within CRN Greater Manchester can support the regional research community, and how researchers can work with the organisation's volunteer registries. The report ends with a look ahead to some of the projects being supported by CRN Greater Manchester over the coming year.

Roger Spencer, Chairman of the CRN Greater Manchester Partnership Board, said:

"As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of our wonderful National Health Service in 2023, we are reminded of the amazing progress that has been made in health and care since the NHS was founded in 1948. Research has made those advances possible, and it is our privilege to continue this important work.

"In 2022/23 our network once again embraced this responsibility. Thank you to everyone in our local system who made it possible for those 51,279 people to be part of research. And thank you to each of those participants for taking an action which will help shape the future of health and care."
