Research first for Tipton dental practice

Princes End Dental Practice in Tipton is among the first to join a new network aimed at supporting dentists to take part in research.

Set up by the Clinical Research Network West Midlands (CRN WM), the Dental Research Network provides practices with insight into the role that research can play in supporting the health of their patients. Oral and dental health has a close link to the overall health of the population and it is in this context that the Dental Research Network has been developed.

Dentists can get involved in UK-wide research studies,  learn about different types of dental research and provide opportunities for people affected by oral and dental health conditions to influence and take part in research.

The Network will share information about potential studies that are open in the region, and the benefits of taking part,  as well as accessing resources to support research careers.

As the work develops, dental practitioners will also have access to research findings which may influence and improve their practice. Find information on our Dental Research Network Google site or by emailing icdt.crnwestmidlands@nihr.ac.uk.

Anesha Chauhan, Research Practitioner with the CRN West Midlands (pictured, left) said:  “We are delighted to welcome Princes End Dental Practice to our new and growing network.  We are looking forward to working with the team and with different practices across the West Midlands as the work grows.”

Principal Dentist Dr Ateef Azam (pictured, right) said:  “We aim to provide the very best in dental care to all our patients and being able to  offer them opportunities to take part in research studies is a key part of this.  We are thrilled to be in at the start of this exciting initiative.”

Last year more than 1.3 million people, of all ages, took part in vital health and social care research in England, playing a part in developing better treatments, improving diagnosis, and learning more about prevention of illness to provide better care for everyone.
