The Clinical Research Network (CRN) Greater Manchester Certificate of Achievement was introduced this year, in addition to the annual Greater Manchester Health and Care Research Awards. This new initiative has been created to formally recognise the excellence of staff working across the CRN network in Greater Manchester, East Cheshire and East Lancashire throughout the year.

Becky Hill, Patient Flow Coordinator at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), was presented with her award by Janette Dunkerley, Assistant Chief Nurse for Research and Innovation (R&I) at MFT and Director of Nursing for NIHR CRN Greater Manchester and CRN North West Coast (NWC) for her contributions to research.

Becky who works on Ward F3, a lung surgery ward at Wythenshawe Hospital, part of MFT, is the second person to receive a new workforce recognition awarN Greater Manchester.d from NIHR CR

Becky has gone out of her way to support research delivery and perfectly exemplifies the importance of embedding research in all staff roles across the organisation.

In particular, clinical research nurses were grateful for how Becky arranged for them to have private conversations with patients about research participation before they go into theatre. The nomination for Becky said, ‘we would not be able to recruit patients from F3 without her'.

Janette was joined by Matron Kath Hewitt, Ward Manager Steph Caine and Head of Nursing for the Respiratory Division at Wythenshawe Hospital, Clare Ardron, for the presentation.

Janette said: "Many congratulations to Becky who has been instrumental in supporting the recruitment of patients into research studies on her ward. Becky has demonstrated how research is part of everyone’s role within the hospital and this is a brilliant example of working together to embed research in our everyday clinical practice.

"I was delighted to present Becky with her Certificate of Achievement as both Assistant Chief Nurse for R&I at MFT and also as Director of Nursing for NIHR CRN Greater Manchester and NWC. Becky’s Ward Manager, Matron and Head of Nursing for the Respiratory Division were exceptionally proud of Becky and her achievement. Well done, Becky!"

Becky said: “I felt really flattered when I received the award as it’s always nice to receive recognition and praise. I am very proud to be part of such a great team that contributes to important research. It’s a lovely feeling to know that the things I’m doing day to day are making a difference.”
