Third Health Research Festival takes place in Ashton-under-Lyne

Hundreds of people attended Clinical Research Network Greater Manchester's third Health Research Festival which took place at the market place in Ashton-under-Lyne on Saturday 8 July 2023.
The drop-in event also celebrated the NHS' 75th birthday and was attended by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Tafheen Sharif, who cut a birthday cake to celebrate the occasion and took the opportunity to take part in the Genes and Health study.
The NIHR’s Greater Manchester Research Van was available for people to look around and get a feel for the different ways we can deliver research.
Throughout the event, there was the opportunity to take part in a number of research studies looking at a range of conditions. People could also sign-up to hear about other upcoming opportunities to be part of research which is taking place in Greater Manchester to help discover new ways to prevent, diagnose and manage illnesses.
Sarah Fallon, Chief Operating Officer at CRN Greater Manchester, said: "Thank you to all of our exhibitors and everyone who came along to the health research festival. This is just one way we are delivering research in the community and was an opportunity for members of the public to learn about and get involved in health and care research. We are especially proud to have organised this event as part of our celebrations of the NHS’ 75th birthday and to explore how research can shape the future of our care services.”
People who attended also had access to free health checks and the opportunity to meet local community health and wellbeing support organisations including Research for the Future, Healthwatch Tameside, Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, Synexus, and many more.
