A research worker believes Clinical Research Practitioners (CRPs) are integral to achieving the NIHR's mission to improve the health and wealth of the nation.
Ibiyemi Sadare is a Senior Clinical Trials Practitioner. She works for Croydon Health Services NHS Trust in south London. Ibiyemi is also NIHR South London Regional Research Delivery Network's CRP Engagement Lead.
The Senior Clinical Trials Practitioner is urging CRPs to join the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) and NIHR's Accredited Register for CRPs. The register supports high standards in the profession and the ongoing development of practitioners.
Ibiyemi said: "Clinical research practitioners are becoming more visible in healthcare organisations across the UK. Registration is a welcome initiative. A standards body places CRPs on the same pedestal as other recognised professions. Being on the register offers many benefits.
"Registration takes a CRP to a satisfying level of supporting the research agenda. We all are important in helping the NIHR's mission to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research.
"My passion is supporting patients and innovation in research. I also support CRP's development. My work involves encouraging them to become registered. I try to make the process as smooth as possible for CRPs."
Ibiyemi said one of the highlights of her 20-year career has been helping the public. She continued:
"Patients appreciate having someone available to address their concerns. I also guide them through the research process. This is fulfilling, as it allows me to build meaningful connections with people. I take great joy in working with and supporting our patients."
The NIHR is the UK's largest funder of health and care research. Its mission is to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research.
